WOUND CARE

STARFISH PROGRAM

Picture
Wound care is critical in any country, but particularly in impoverished countries prone to viral and infectious diseases. Caring for wounds associated with disease, surgery or an acute injury is a vital part of the recovery process. Proper wound care prevents infection and secondary complications as well as speeds healing to minimize scarring.

HOW's wound care program is primarily focused on children participating in our Starfish program.  Most Starfish children require surgery at some point within our program. And, many suffer from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a prevalent skin disease that causes painful blisters, open sores and is potentially lethal. Children with EB require expensive and specialized wound care in order to prevent infection.
